The evening sun cast a warm golden glow over the grand courtyard of the Oberoi Mansion. Tall palm trees rustled in the cool breeze as luxury cars lined the driveway. But inside the opulent living room, Nayanika Oberoi-now Nayanika Singhania-stood near the archway, her quiet eyes wandering over the familiar family portraits on the walls.
At twenty-five, Nayanika was the picture of elegance. A successful fashion model, she possessed sharp, striking features, a lithe physique, and a graceful aura that effortlessly commanded attention on the runway. Yet, behind the glamorous lifestyle lay a heart that was silently mending.
For years, Nayanika had carried a secret. Ever since she was a teenager hanging out at Ranawat's Home as Anvika's best friend, her heart had belonged to Devansh Ranawat. She had watched him grow into a powerful, strikingly handsome titan of industry. But Devansh was guarded by an impenetrable wall-cold, aloof, and completely focused on his empire and siblings.
She remembered the afternoon two years ago when she had gathered the courage to casually test the waters. She had asked him about his thoughts on settling down, half-hoping for a flicker of romance in his answer.
Devansh hadn't even looked up from his iPad. His voice had been clipped and devoid of emotion: "Marriage and relationships are an unnecessary distraction, Nayanika. I have an empire to run and a family to protect. I am completely fine as I am, and I intend to keep it that way."
Those words had closed the door on her hidden hopes.
Then came the storm six months ago. When her parents brought her a marriage proposal, she had initially refused, insisting she wanted to focus on her career. But her father's tearful confession changed everything. Her grandmother, Swarna Oberoi-the matriarch of the family-was diagnosed with advanced-stage cancer. The doctors had given the upcoming surgery a 50-50 survival rate. Swarna's last wish was to see her grandchildren settled, and her father had pleaded, "It's the right age, beta. This family is good, and we may not get a proposal like this again. Do it for your grandmother's peace of mind."
Bound by love and duty, Nayanika gave in. A month ago, she married Akash Singhania, a wealthy businessman from Delhi, and moved to the capital.
"Still getting lost in your own head?" a gentle, familiar voice cut through her thoughts.
Nayanika turned to see her brother, Tanishq Oberoi. At twenty-eight, Tanishq was a soft-spoken pediatrician with warm, empathetic eyes and a soothing presence that comforted both sick children and his family alike.
"Just thinking about how fast everything changed, Bhai," Nayanika admitted, offering a faint, nostalgic smile as she picked up the thali from the side table.
"You look beautiful, Nayu," Tanishq said warmly, taking a seat on the low wooden settee. "Delhi suits you, though Mom and Dad miss having you around every day."
Nayanika smiled, applying the tilak to his forehead and tying the silk thread tightly around his wrist. She performed the aarti, praying for his long life, health, and happiness.
"May you always remain the kindest soul in the world, Bhai," she whispered, feeding him a piece of sweet.
"And may you find all the peace and happiness you deserve," Tanishq replied softly. He placed a wrapped present in her lap along with an envelope. "A little something for the top model of the family."
"You didn't have to get me anything extravagant, Tanishq Bhai," she chuckled, unwrapping a gorgeous vintage emerald bracelet.
"Nonsense. Dadi's surgery is next week, and seeing you settled has brought her so much peace. You made a big sacrifice, Nayu. A little pampering is the least I can do." Tanishq adjusted his cuff, glancing at his watch. "Speaking of peace... Anvi called earlier. She said her brothers were pampering her as usual."
A soft, knowing look passed over Nayanika's face. She knew all about Anvika's long-standing secret crush on Tanishq-just as Anvi had no idea about Nayanika's past feelings for Devansh.
"Anvi was so excited about today," Nayanika said, watching Tanishq's expression closely. "She said they were planning to drop by our place later this evening."
At the mention of Anvika, a subtle, gentle warmth relaxed Tanishq's sharp features. "Is that so? Then I should probably make sure the kitchen has her favorite snacks ready."
Nayanika smiled softly, hiding the quiet ache of her past under a composed exterior. She adjusted the heavy border of her designer sari, stepping back into her role as a married woman, a protective sister, and a loving daughter.
"Let's go check on Dadi first," Nayanika said, putting the gifts aside. "And then we can welcome the Ranawats."
